MIXTRIP Hope Town: a "must see" in The Bahamas

Tiny and clean street: everything looks miniature

Can you imagine a beautiful village, where everything looks miniature, with colorful cottages distributed in a ecological harmony of wonderful flowers, animals and waters? This paradise exists and is called Hope Town. The small island is situated on Elbow Cay, in Abaco, in the Northern Bahamas and is just less than six miles long. On its few streets, cars are not allowed in some areas, while bikes and golf carts are the primary means of transport. Hope Town is such a cute place. Even its lighthouse looks like a candy: the red and white striped Elbow Cay Lighthouse is famous as it is the last in the world to use kerosene as fuel and one of three left operating manually. The rest of the island is not so famous, that’s why it is simply indescribable.

In the outskirts of Hope Town, the harmony is everywhere. Very lovely and kind people just complete the welcome feeling of those visiting the place. With options of cottages and houses to be rented – and a few hotels – only one night in the village is enough to feel like a long vacation and for one to wish to come back as soon as possible. The bike ride on the island is a must: besides entertainment, this mean of transport offers gorgeous views from any part of Hope Town. The daily rental of two bicycles costs only US$25, and the golf cart rental, US$50 (which is also a good choice for those who don’t want to exercise on vacation).

Hope Town Harbour Lodge view: required for weddings

Between the Atlantic Ocean and the Abaco Sea, Hope Town is lined with pristine, sandy beaches complimented by an extensive array of live reefs just off shore. In its Historic Center, the Wyannie Malone Historic Museum and the rejuvenated Memorial Garden are nice attractions for the tourists, who are also pleased with the Caribbean colonial style architecture of colorful houses, a police station, clinic and church – everything very small - located right on the harbour’s entrance. By the way whoever wants to visit Hope Town should travel by plane to Marsh Harbour (about 25 min.) and from there, take a boat (less than 15 min.) to the fantastic settlement.

For those who love gastronomy, Hope Town has a very popular and open restaurant with an amazing view, as you approach the island. Harbour’s Edge offers delicious fish fingers and most of the entrees are served with a complimentary salad. Drinks such as the Bahama Mama and Daikiris are very tasty and prepared with Bahamian caprice. Are you excited to visit “Hope” Town? Don’t wait too long. And don’t forget to take your sunblock either; Abaco’s sun seems to be the strongest in The Bahamas. By the way, what is not strong in this place? J

Bikes can be rented and offer amazing rides
Skate roller: one more mean of transport allowed in Hope Town ;)

Father and daughter: just happy after the Church

Beautiful cottages and beaches are everywhere on the island
